Bristol Housing

HISTORY


Bristol Housing was chartered in 1964 by the City of Bristol, TN. Over the next few years, 66 buildings containing a total of 144 apartments were built in different areas of the City to house low-income persons. Those 144 apartments ranged from 0-bedroom apartments to 5-bedroom apartments. Some of these units were later designated for the elderly and disabled.

In 1971, Edgemont Tower, a 10-story building comprised of 118 apartments was built at 100 Ash St. This facility was designated for the elderly & disabled.

In 1981, Fort Shelby Tower, another 10-story building comprised of 110 units was built at 400 Shelby St. and was also designated for the elderly and disabled.

Bristol Housing also operates a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program which provides rental assistance for 200 very low-income families. Families receiving these vouchers use them to rent properties in the private sector in Bristol and Sullivan County, Tennessee.
